MIDLAND — Four sophomores at Lincoln Park Performing Arts Charter School have reached the finals of a music video contest sponsored by Ford Motor Co.
Amber Ardolino, Chalisse Monroe, Trey Singletary and Levi Keller recorded an original song, “Drive Safely,” which they perform in the video that’s competing in Ford’s online Belt it Out campaign promoting safe driving among teens.
The video, shot at their Midland school in February, shows Ardolino, of Beaver Falls, singing the song’s pop-rock melody, joined on vocals by Monroe, of Pittsburgh, who wrote the tune. There’s a rap interlude featuring Singletary, of Aliquippa, while Keller, a Mars resident, plays guitar.
People can visit www.drivingskillsforlife.com to watch the 10 competing videos, and to vote for their favorite. Voting ends May 1, at which point the five top vote-getters advance to the final round.
“We’re in first place right now, which is very cool,” Ardolino said.
The final round will be judged by pop singer Kate Voegele, who has appeared on The CW’s “One Tree Hill.”
The winning video earns $5,000 in savings bonds for each team member.
Second- and third-place awards are $3,000 and $1,000.
