Mission Statement

The Theatre Department serves a variety of students by including three different areas of study: Theatre, Musical Theatre, and Technical Theatre. Within each of these programs, students will learn about and practice theatre arts, developing skills in a working professional environment. Students will have the opportunity to be involved in Lincoln Park Performing Arts Center performances, which will help educate, inspire, and broaden their interests.

Course of Study

The theatre curriculum is based on a college model, and consists of courses ranging from introductory to advanced study. These classes will provide students with a well-rounded and challenging education, with numerous opportunities for hands-on professional experience. Students will be able to use this training to succeed in a number of different opportunities available in professional theatre, or in numerous other career paths.

The theatre faculty is comprised of dedicated professional actors; highly-skilled technical staff; and Pennsylvania-certified teachers. The faculty includes former Broadway and national touring performers; seasoned professional actors, directors, choreographers and technicians; and artists who work in film, television and radio. Members of our faculty have worked with the Pittsburgh Public Theater, Pittsburgh CLO, CLO Cabaret, City Theatre, Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, Quantum Theatre, the REP at Pittsburgh Playhouse, Mountain Playhouse, Pittsburgh Irish & Classical Theatre, St. Vincent Summer Theatre, West Virginia Public Theatre, Pittsburgh Musical Theater, August Wilson Theater, Point Park University, Carnegie Mellon University, Duquesne University, and the professional unions AEA, SAG, AFTRA, SSDC and IATSE.

Students are also afforded the opportunity to interact with guest artists from world-class theatre organizations, through master classes and project-based learning. Past guest artists have included Broadway legend Marvin Hamlisch, Anthony Rapp, Craig Carnelia, Arleen Sugano, Jonathan Eaton, Academy Award winning actress Shirley Jones, Lisa Harrow, Rachelle Rak, Seth Rudetsky, Tim Federle, Andrew David Ostrowski and Kim Brown. The department has also hosted visits and master classes with professionals  from Slippery Rock, Kent State and Point Park universities.
