A Lincoln Park freshman was honored with the President’s Volunteer Service Award for his exemplary commitment to community service.
For more than a year, Miles Krofchek, a theater major, logged numerous volunteer hours. He spent every Sunday in Pittsburgh feeding the homeless. He also volunteered annually with Ride for Kids, a national series of motorcycle events aimed at raising funds to eliminate the challenges of childhood brain tumors.
Miles was among a select group of young volunteers under consideration for state-level recognition in the 2018 Prudential Spirit of Community Awards program. He wasn’t selected for the state honor, judges were impressed with the commitment and energy he displayed in his volunteer activities. The program is considered one of the largest U.S. youth recognition programs based exclusively on volunteer community service.
Based on his number of volunteer hours, Miles qualified for the President’s Service Award and received a certificate and letter signed by President Donald J. Trump. Awards are issued for service hours served within a 12-month time span.
Miles is the son of Glenn and Edie Krofchek of Mercer, Pa.
