Lincoln Park student advances as finalist for National Merit Scholarship

MIDLAND, Pa. – Samantha Berry of Beaver, Pa., a senior music student at Lincoln Park Performing Arts Charter School, has advanced to finalist in the 2010 National Merit Scholarship Program. She had been named a semifinalist in September.
Lincoln Park CEO Becky Manning was notified of the honor by mail Friday. Berry is the school's first National Merit finalist. She is among 15,000 finalists nationwide competing for 8,200 National Merit Scholarships to be awarded this spring.
Berry is a daughter of Keith and Rosibel Berry of Beaver. She has attended Lincoln Park all four years of the school's existence.
Manning said Berry is an outstanding musician and academic student, carrying a perfect 4.0 grade average.
Among her music honors are selection to the National High School Music Institute (2009) at Northwestern University and the Indiana University Piano Academy (2008). She was an alternate selection for Steinway Student of the Month.
