LAS VEGAS – Lincoln Park graduate Kelsi Darby made it to the next-to-last round of auditions for the “So You Think You Can Dance” television show, getting bumped out of competition in the ballroom dancing section.
Though she didn’t make the final cut, she did receive an invitation from the show’s producer to dance at the Dizzy Feet Gala at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion in Hollywood in July, according to her mother, Lori Darby.
“She came extremely close to getting all the way through on her first attempt, and she left Vegas motivated and inspired to try again next year. She made a lot of great contacts, and found many doors opening because of this experience,” said Mrs. Darby.
Kelsi made it through four of five audition rounds in New York and Las Vegas before she and her partner had some problems in the ballroom competition and were eliminated.
“She was one of the last 20 female dancers. It is my understanding that they are taking 15 females and 15 males to what they call the ‘Green Mile,’ and then they will be narrowed down to 10 females and 10 males to form the Top 20 who will compete live over the next few weeks,” Mrs. Darby said.
Nigel Lythgoe, producer of “So You Think You Can Dance” and “American Idol,” asked Kelsi to dance inthe Dizzy Feet Gala at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion in Hollywood in July. She accepted the offer, her mother said.
