MIDLAND, Pa. – Results of state testing show students at Lincoln Park Performing Arts Charter School scored higher in reading than did students from any school district in Beaver County.
CEO Becky Manning said results of state testing released Sept. 15 by the Pennsylvania Department of Education show Lincoln Park students scored 89.7 percent overall proficient or advanced in reading, and the eighth grade class by itself scored 100 percent proficient or advanced in reading.
Two Beaver County school districts scored above the 80th percentile in reading: Blackhawk, 85.3; and Beaver Area, 84.4.
The charter school has never missed making AYP (Adequate Yearly Progress) in state PSSA testing since it opened in the 2006-07 school year and has always received the Keystone Award from the state for academic excellence, said Manning. This year Lincoln Park met all 13 performance targets, reaching math and reading proficiency goals outright and achieving a 100 percent graduation rate.
“Test results and the success of students like National Merit Scholar Samantha Berry show that Lincoln Park offers an education that is both arts-rich and academically challenging,” said Manning.
Lincoln Park Performing Arts Charter School has an enrollment of 525 in grades 8-12 this year, drawing students from five surrounding counties and nearly 50 school districts.
“Many of our students endure long bus and transit rides just to get here every morning,” said Manning. “They want to be part of this school, and that attitude makes all the difference.”
