Lincoln Park senior Bethany Krystek was named a Commended Student in the 2019 National Merit Scholarship Program for her outstanding performance on the 2017 PSAT.
Krysek ranks among the top 3 percent of high school seniors nationwide being recognized for exceptional academic promise demonstrated by outstanding performance on a qualifying test.
Of about 1.6 million juniors who entered the 2019 program competition by taking the 2017 qualifying test, approximately 34,000 achieved commendation status, according to the National Merit Scholarship Corporation.
Krysek received a letter of commendation from the NMSC, which conducts the program.
Commended students do not continue in the competition for National Merit Scholarship awards, but some of them are likely to become candidates for special scholarships sponsored by businesses and corporations.
Krysek, a health science major, plans to study sports medicine to become an athletic trainer.
She is the daughter of Eugene and Luraina Krystek of Hermitage.
