Music students from Lincoln Park Performing Arts Charter School will hold a benefit concert to support earthquake relief efforts in Haiti. The concert is to be held Thursday, April 22, 2010 at 7:30 p.m. in the studio theater at Lincoln Park Performing Arts Center.
The benefit concert was organized by students Helen Candea and Kaleb Chesnic.
“What people don’t realize is that the dilemma in Haiti isn’t over, it’s just on the news as much,” said Condea, a junior studying music. “We wanted to do something in an effort to continue support for the people of Haiti.”
Senior music major Chesnic said both students and staff will perform in the at the concert, which will feature variety of musical styles, from jazz to classical.
“We have about seven students who will be performing as well as two staff members, Mr. & Mrs. DeSade. And students who aren’t performing have already committed to attending.”
Among the performances slated for the evening is a duet of a movement by classical composer Paul Hindemith, performed by Chesnic on piano and Candea on flute.
Voice teacher Kelley DeSade will perform a jazz piece accompanied on saxophone by her husband and director of jazz performance at Lincoln Park, Eric DeSade.
Tickets will be $5 at the door, with 100 percent of the proceeds going towards relief efforts. Students will also be accepting donations during intermission, said Chesnic.
“Our goal is to raise as much money as we possibly can to help the people of Haiti start to rebuild their lives.”
