A Lincoln Park Performing Arts Charter School junior is the winner of the 2018 Congressional Art Competition for Pennsylvania’s 12th District.
Paige McCrann, a media arts major, won first place in the competition for her work “Dad Comes Home.”
McCrann’s photograph was inspired by her father, Air Force Lt. Col. Todd M. McCrann, who recently came home from deployment. She is the daughter of Todd and Betsy McCrann of Ambridge.
McCrann was announced the winner on Saturday, April 28, during an artist event at the North Hills Arts Center in Ross Township. The annual competition is open to high school students and sponsored by the office of U.S. Rep. Keith Rothfus.
“The Congressional Art Competition is a wonderful opportunity to showcase the incredible talent of students from Western Pennsylvania,” Rothfus said in a statement.
McCrann will travel to the Capitol Visitor Center in Washington, D.C. this June to attend the Congressional Art Reception. She’ll have the opportunity to see her artwork prominently displayed in the Cannon Tunnel leading to the U.S. Capitol alongside other winning pieces from each congressional district. McCrann’s art work will be on display for 11 months.
The U.S. House of Representatives sponsors a nationwide high school art competition each year to feature the artistic abilities of young constituents.
A panel of local judges chose the winning artwork. Second place was awarded to Amber Delahunty of Plum High School and third place to Autumn Menzock of Sewickley Academy. [/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
