Three Lincoln Park writing and publishing students won awards at the 2019 Youngstown State University English Festival, an annual program that took place April 10-12.
Jake Shafran, junior, earned first place and Alissa Haddox, senior, earned second place in the Not-So-Trivial Pursuit category, a challenging game that tests your memory and attention to detail by requiring you to answer extremely specific questions about characters, events, locations, names, and more in festival books. Jake is the son of Jerry and Barb Shafran of Bradford Woods and Alissa is the daughter of Brian and Sherry Haddox of Hermitage.
Mylo Caudill, junior, earned third place in Journalism, a workshop in which students participate in a mock press conference then compose the interview for publication. Mylo is the son of Mark and Dawn Caudill of Butler.
This was Lincoln Park’s second year attending the festival, which draws students from counties in Pennsylvania and Ohio. Seven students from the Writing and Publishing Department attended, including senior Patrick Erb-White of Ambridge, and juniors Julia Aloi of Beaver, Steviee Geagan of Saxonburg, and Melia Lenkner of Greenville.
