Three Lincoln Park freshmen won awards at the Upper Saint Clair Novice Forensics Tournament at Fort Couch Middle School in the South Hills.
Shaiane Matotek and Chyane Sims won first place overall in Duo Interpretation, and Melanie Fox took fourth place overall in Poetry.
A total of seven students from the Pre-Law department competed in their first speech tournament along with more than 200 students from 23 area schools on Saturday, Oct. 27 in Upper St. Clair.
The tournament involved four rounds of competition in their chosen categories: Duo Interpretation, Poetry, Prose and Original Oratory. In Duo Interpretation, two competitors team up to deliver a 10-minute performance of a published play or story without props or costumes. In Poetry, competitors use a selection or selections of literature to provide an oral interpretation of poetry.
Matotek and Sims earned trophies and Fox earned a ribbon.

Sims is the daughter of Brent and Cornelia Sims of Aliquippa
Fox is the daughter of Mark and Carmen Fox of Brighton Township
