It’s time for another #WhereAreTheyWednesday to highlight our alumni! This week’s alumna is 2008 graduate Kathryn Stanton, previously known as Kathryn Kramer, a music major who focused on trumpet and voice. She participated in International Thespian Society, Orchestra, Choir, and Dance Ensembles. She also played a role in numerous shows — Patty in “Grease” (2006), Demeter in “CATS” (2007), Mrs. Gibbs in “Our Town” (2007), Anytime Annie in “42nd Street” (Fall 2007), was Assistant Stage Manager for “The Nutcracker” (2007), and Mrs. Greenwich/Kelsey Understudy in “Leader of the Pack” (2008).
Open Mic Fridays are her favorite Lincoln Park memory. She believes LP prepared her for the future by giving her a look into what college life was going to be for a music major. “The juries at the end of each semester were a taste of what to expect at the collegiate level and the music theory classes gave me a leg up into freshman aural and written theory.”
Stanton graduated in 2017 with a bachelor’s degree in music from Youngstown State University and is now the choir director and piano instructor at Chaney High School in the Youngstown City School District. A Youngstown resident, she also does private voice and group piano for The Stage Door Performing Arts Center in Poland, OH and Columbiana Performing Arts Center in Columbiana, OH.
Her career and personal accomplishments since Lincoln Park include being featured soloist in University Choir and Dana Chorale, Dorabella in Così fan Tutte (2016), mother to 6 year-old Zoe Guinevere (born 2012), married to Ryan in May 2018, music director for The Stage Door PAC production of “Wizard of Oz” (spring 2019), director and soloist in “Anything Goes! A History of Musical Theater” (summer 2017).
Her advice for current or future Lincoln Park students? Strive to be the best, but remember to be humble. Go practice. Don’t procrastinate, but schedule breaks for yourself. And…even if it’s small, HAVE A SOCIAL LIFE!
