We’re back for another #WhereAreTheyWednesday highlighting our alumni and what they’re up to now.
Savannah Kozar is a 2015 Writing and Publishing (at the time, Literary Arts) graduate who believes Lincoln Park helped prepare her for the future by catering to her interests and nurturing her growth.
“I loved writing and music, so my teachers helped me gain better experience with music journalism,” she said. “I learn the ins and outs of the music industry while also gaining the ability to use them as I started networking for jobs.”
Kozar of Cranberry Township majored in Literary Arts (now Writing and Publishing) with a focus on photography, voice and musical theater, and took part in Siren, BatCat Press, and Pulp. One of her favorite Lincoln Park memories is when Dan LeRoy, director of writing and publishing, was able to get her a press pass for a show she was writing about for the newspaper.
“I got to photograph the show and interview the opening act. This really sparked my interest in the music industry,” said Kozar, who has bachelor’s degree Sports, Arts, and Entertainment Management from Point Park University.
Kozar now does marketing, is a social media intern, and street team manager. She works with Roxian Live, a McKees Rocks-based production and booking company, works for two VIP companies, LaneOne and CID Entertainment, as a VIP ambassador at shows all over Pittsburgh, and she’s currently on street team for the band Makeout. She also works for the Pittsburgh Penguins as a Kids Zone attendant and at game day events. Kozak volunteers for “A Night to Remember,” a special needs prom hosted in Cranberry and the Miracle League, a national organization that builds ballfields designed to accommodate children and adults with special needs.
Since attending Lincoln Park, she’s had many internships at local venues in Pittsburgh, including Stage AE and Mr. Smalls Theater, doing marketing, promotions and VIP. She has worked for different music festivals such as Vans Warped Tour, Thrival and Four Chords Fest, and has street teamed for various record labels such as Fearless Records and Sumerian Records and worked shows for the labels.
Her advice for current or future Lincoln Park students: “It’s never too early to start building your career. Network yourself and get involved. You’re going to hear ‘no’ a lot, but don’t even quit going after the future and career you want.”
Alumni, we’d love to hear from you! If you’d like to be featured in an upcoming post please email us at marketing@lppacs.org.
